B&C Blog: 11-6 Day Long Celebration

Bobby Dwyer

Well, the guys kicked-off today’s Radio Program from Mudville 9, a bar located at 126 Chambers Street in Manhattan, which just happens to be a stones’ throw away from the parade route that the World Champion New York Yankees will take for their celebration. The bar was packed and the energy level was high, but unfortunately for everyone, we had some technical problems and the guys had to cut the remote part of the broadcast short and head back to the WFAN studios to finish the final three hours of the pre-parade celebration. When the guys arrived back here to Hudson Street, Craig was still wearing his Yankee hat, which rubbed Boomer the wrong way. The guys then had a discussion about the future of Yankee darling, Andy Pettitte, who is not under contract for next season…Plus, Craig declares that nothing tops being a New Yorker, then he pleads with school teachers to act human today before Jerry gives us a quick sports update, the overnight star duo of Fo Onassis and Mina perform their hit ‘Here Come the Yankees’, the Governor David Paterson gives us his parade plans, I man very special to me - Fergal Murray – who just happens to be the Guinness Brewmaster (mmmmm Guinness), Craig’s new TV partner (for the day) Chris Wragge calls to make sure Craig is all set for today’s appearance on CBS 2, World Famous Tattoo Lou talks about Yankee ink, a Moment that sums up the day and the guys NFL picks…

Today is a day to celebrate if you’re a New Yorker, at least according to Boomer and Craig it is. Personally I am a New Yorker, have been all my life, but I have no desire to celebrate today. It could have something to do with being a Phillies fan, but I digress. I can tell you one thing I won’t be doing is congratulating Yankee fans, not because I’m a jerk, but as a fan of the Phils I received countless congratulation calls when they won it all last year and I just didn’t get it. I mean I root for the team, but offering congratulations makes no sense to me…Anyway, the guys traveled over to Mudville 9 in Manhattan to ‘celebrate’ with the people. The first hour of the show went off as planned, as fans packed into Mudville 9’s ready to celebrate and celebrate they did. But then we experienced some technical difficulties and the guys were forced to head back to the WFAN Studios here on Hudson Street…

So then they had to open up the show all over again, but it wasn’t a problem because it was gonna take a lot more than some technical difficulties to damper the spirits of Boomer and Craig. Boomer immediately took issue with Craig’s choice of head gear; he was wearing a Yankee winter hat and he is a Mets fan. Boomer assured Craigie that he will not forget how he has acted through this Yankees run (Mets Fans For Yankees). The guys went to the phones to get the pulse of the people and then talked about the future of World Series hero Andy Pettitte, who is not under contract with the Bombers for next season…

Craig, a self-proclaimed die-hard Mets fan, has had no problem rooting for the Yankees over the past few months. I mean really can you blame him, he roots for the Mets. But that aside, Craig is a New Yorker above all. Therefore he has absolutely no problem riding the coat tails of Bombers fans and having himself a grand ole time today. He also encourages the rest of you New Yorkers to do the same. I will probably watch my 2008 World Series Highlight DVD or maybe fire up the PlayStation 3 and ‘re-write’ history. In all honesty, I will most likely end up watching Cinderella or Beauty and the Beast; I have a 2 ½ year old daughter at home…

Craig could not emphasize enough what a special day it is today, no matter what team you root for. He took to pleading, as he delivered a heartfelt message to teachers across the tri-state area, asking them to act human today and let the students have a little fun. Then Jerry delivered a quick update and focused on a David Letterman appearance by three of the four Yankees ‘Core Four’ and what a fortunate day it is for Knicks fans to have LeBron James in town to witness a New York Championship celebration first hand…

The dynamic duo of Fo Onassis and the lovely Mina made another trip to the WFAN Studios today to belt out their overnight sensation hit, ‘Here Come the Yankees.’ Fo and Mina stopped by last week to perform, but today, in light of the Yankee celebration, Craig thought it would be a good day to have them on again. He even invited a top executive over at Island Def Jam Records, Erik Oleson or EO as Craig refers to him, to give a listen. Needless to say, he liked what he heard…

There was quite a bit made on yesterday’s Program about Kelli O’Hara, the gal who performed ‘God Bless America’ at Yankee Stadium Wednesday night. Boomer was there and said her performance was unbelievable, which of course made Craig want to hear it for himself, only problem was there was no actually recording anywhere to be found. Turns out Fox, who was in a commercial break at the time, apparently was not rolling when Kelli brought the Stadium down. Well, she came on with the guys to tell them about her amazing night in the Bronx and when it ended; Craig had her singing him a lullaby…

The Governor of New York, David Paterson, dialed the guys up this morning to let them know of his plans for the Big Day in the state he governs. Craig of course had to bust Mr. Paterson’s chops a bit about getting himself in some hot water for accepting free tickets to Game 1 of the World Series. But the Governor is a good friend of the Program, so I’m sure he wasn’t surprised…

Then a guest that is certainly dear to my heart, the Guinness Brewmaster, Fergal Murray. Fergal has the envious job of personally tasting freshly made Guinness every day. He talked to the guys about his world famous beer, which will certainly be consumed in large quantities today, and the yanks as well…

Craig is going to be handling some TV duties for WCBS 2 today, along with Chris Wragge, they will be covering the Parade, coverage begins at 11am. Chris must have heard Craig talking about him, more specifically talking about what he had in mind for today’s broadcast, so he called up to make sure Craigie planned on behaving himself…

Earlier in the show the guys were wondering if there was any kind of run on Yankee tattoos, after the Bombers captured World Series title #27. They wanted to talk with the man who tattooed me LIVE on the Show back in June, Tattoo Lou. Lou is the owner of World Famous…Tattoo Lou’s, on Long Island (check them out at TattooLous.com) and he informed the boys that there has been quite a run on Yankee Tattoo’s over the last few days…

As I mentioned earlier it was quite a scene over at Mudville 9’s during the 6am hour. Which brings us to Jerry Recco’s highly anticipated Moment of the Day. Today Jerry’s Moment came from the very first caller to the Boomer and Carton Morning Extravaganza, who just happened to be a Red Sox fan…

Believe it or not, today is actually a Football Friday on the Show and what would a Football Friday be without Boomer and Craig’s NFL Picks against the spread. They are as follows…Enjoy the eye candy…
