After last night’s Game 6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies, the New York Yankees are back, where they believe, they belong. Pedro Martinez was far from good and Andy Pettitte did what he had to do to earn his 18th post season victory, of his 15 year career. I’m not gonna lie, today is tough day for me because I am a fan of the Phillies and it’s a lot more difficult functioning on less than three hours sleep when your team loses, but I’m a pro so I’ll grind through it. Anyway, if you were a fan of the Bombers, you had it all last night, vintage Pettitte, three hits from Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera on the mound for the final out, Joy-Joy. Hideki Matsui took home the MVP honors after his record tying six-RBI performance and Boomer says you can’t help but be happy for Yankee skipper Joe Girardi, personally I have to disagree. One thing that caught Craig’s attention was following the final out, when the celebration commenced, ‘The Captain’ himself Derek Jeter, was bypassed as the Yankees chose instead to mob Alex Rodriguez. The time they have a changed folks…Plus, during Jerry Recco’s first update Craig imagines the night that Alex Rodriguez had with Kate Hudson and we also heard some ‘exclusive audio’ from the Boss’ son Hank ‘Where’s Your Moses Know’ Steinbrenner, a listen back to John Sterling’s final call, the exact moment the guys knew the Yankees were gonna be celebrating, Girardi’s redemption song, yet another chat with the good folks over at Fox 5’s Good Day NY program, John Flaherty chimes in on all of the happenings and a Moment that you couldn’t help but laugh at…
Andy Pettitte was able to turn back the clock last night in the Bronx and Pedro Martinez was reminded once again who exactly his father is. Pettitte was humble in victory, which is really no surprise. The left hander pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed three runs before being pulled after yielding a 2-run homer to Ryan Howard. He left the game to a thunderous applause and a combination of Joba Chamberlain, Damaso Marte and the great Mariano Rivera, preserved the victory for Pettitte. It was the Yankees 27th World Series Championship and their first in nine years. Boomer was in attendance and he told us that if you were a fan of the Bombers, it was a great night in the Bronx. Hideki Matsui had three hits, including a second inning 2-run bomb off of Pedro Martinez, and knocked in a record tying six RBI’s on his way to earning MVP honors; which was a little bit of surprise to Craig. He thought Jeter would take home the hardware. Speaking of surprises, Alex Rodriguez shed his image as a post season no-show and it was him, not Jeter, who was mobbed by his teammates after the final out was recorded…
Jerry had plenty to report on during his first update of the Big Program. The Yankees won their 27th World Series Championship and there was plenty of reaction to listen to and ole Jerry had it covered. Craig on the other hand, was overcome by thoughts of the kind of celebrating ARod and Derek Jeter did with their lady friends, Kate Hudson and Minka Kelly respectively…Allow me to quote John Sterling “Wowy Zowy!!!”…Then we heard some audio exclusive to the Boomer and Carton Morning Extravaganza, it was from Hank ‘Where’s Your Moses Now’ Steinbrenner, who is of course the son of the Boss himself, George Steinbrenner…
Then Mike from Jersey called and told the guys he had drank a total of five, 5-Hour Energy Drinks, so needless to say, he didn’t lack any energy. He was curious to hear what John Sterling’s final call on WCBS 880 sounded like. So, we played it for him. Boomer agreed with Craig that it was a great call, but was quick to point out that he failed to mention that they had to spend $200 million dollars to win it...
In case you haven’t noticed, Craig has somewhat of an obsession with Boomer and since the two were apart for the game last night, Craigie wanted to know the exact moment that he knew the Yanks were going to win. To be honest, I’m not sure Craig was really all that interested; I think he really just wanted to tell Boomer the moment he knew it was over. So, when Boomer failed to ask him, he volunteered the information. He said he knew it was all over, get this, during the National Anthem that was sung by Mary J. Blige…
Joe Girardi played for the Yankees from 1996-99 and won three Championships while during his time with the team. So when he was hired to Manage the club, he had a pretty good idea of what he was in for as far as media scrutiny. With that said, Girardi really took a beating for a lot of his decisions, especially during this post season run. So last night must have felt pretty good, sweet redemption some might say, actually that is what Boomer and Craig said…
With the Yankees wrapping up the Series in six games, the guys checked in one last time with Rosanna Scotto and Greg Kelly over at the Fox 5 Good Day NY show. I think Craig caught them a little off-guard with how he got the interview started, but hey this is live radio. All in all Craig behaved himself and I’m sure the folks over at Fox will enjoy the rating’s jump…
With the Yanks being the hot topic all morning, executive producer extraordinaire, Al Dukes thought it might be a good idea to bring on a guest to talk about it. After his prediction his Phillies in five, Mitch Williams was out, so Al turned to another former big leaguer, John Flaherty. Flaherty is currently working as an analyst for the YES Network, so he came on and offered his perspective on the Yankees historic night in the Bronx…
Hank Steinbrenner has been a foil of Craig’s since he entered the spotlight a couple of years ago, unfortunately the Yanks must have put some kind of gag order on him because he’s rarely heard from these days. Well, he was in attendance last night but didn’t say anything all that entertaining, so Craig took matters into his own hands, which eventually turned into Jerry Recco’s highly anticipated Moment of the Day…
Then to end the Big Program, our man Al Dukes decided to pay tribute to the World Champion Yankees, the best way he knows how, through the majesty of music. Al chose the popular Queen hit, We Are The Champions, only Al changed it around a bit, as he has been known to do. He decided to focus on the over the top spending of the Yankees, and as an added bonus, Al performed it LIVE. I must say, as a Phillies fan it was the first thing all morning that actually brought a smile to my face and for that I thank my friend Albert Conner Dukes...
Tomorrow the guys will be doing the show live from ‘Mudville 9’ located at 126 Chambers Street in Manhattan. They will be there at 6am to kick-off the Yankees Championship Parade festivities. Come on down and be part of the fun before you hit the parade route…
