Bob Dwyer

An interesting morning on the Boomer and Carton Extravaganza, that had the guys back in studio after taking the entire staff to New Orleans for a little reprieve. There was certainly plenty to talk about as the Yankees get ready to welcome the Phillies to the Bronx for a pivotal Game 6 and the Boom will be in attendance. Boomer was so excited about going to the game, along with his daughter Sidney; that he vented some of his energy by beating up on Craig, literally. After the beating Craig saw something on ESPN that caught his attention and then the guys had a spirited discussion about Mark Teixeria’s lack of production on the World Series…Plus, Jerry gets a little hot under the collar while delivering his 6:30 update and Charlie Manuel reveals a trick of the trade, Craig voices his concerns about Boomer’s attire for tonight’s game, Christopher Walken shows his poker face, Craig plays nice with the folks over on the Fox 5 Good Day NY program, Jerry gets killed for his 8:30 update, Al Dukes books Jerome Bettis against Craig’s wishes and a unanimous Moment of the Day selection…

The Phillies and the Yankees will hook-up tonight at the Stadium in what will have a throwback feel to it if you will. The reason I say this is because the Phillies will start 38 year old right hander Pedro Martinez, while the Yankees will go with 37 year old Andy Pettitte, who will be pitching on three day’s rest by the way. The story lines for this one are endless and the guys covered most of them. The NY Post decided to put some pictures of the 38 year old Pedro in a baby diaper, you know the whole ‘Who’s Your Daddy’ thing, and they are encouraging fans to bring the picture to the game. Anyway, Boomer will be there tonight, I’m guessing minus the Pedro picture, and he is bringing his daughter, not his radio partner. Craig will actually be spending the night with his two boys, Sonny and Lucky, who are very excited because Papa Carton has told them that with Mommy out of the house, they have no bedtime. Well Boomer is very pumped up about going to the game, so much that he gave Craig a little unprovoked beating early in the show; that only ceased when Craig noticed the awful toupee on the head of ESPN’s Baseball Tonight host Karl Ravech. Then the guys got in a pretty heated discussion about the production, or lack thereof, of Mark Teixeira in the Series. Tex is batting just .105 with one home run, albeit a big one; and 2 RBI’s thus far, certainly not the offensive production the Yankees were hoping for when they signed the slugging first baseman this past off-season. Boomer was quick to point out how solid he’s been with the glove, but Craig was fixated on his lack of offense…

Jerry Recco’s 6:30 update took an unexpected and uncomfortable turn for the worst when he mentioned that Andy Pettitte will be pitching on three day’s rest tonight. Who knew that Jerry would be so excited about the subject, I mean really excited. After digesting Jerry’s strange fetish, Craig predicts that the Yanks will shell Pedro tonight and then we heard from the manager of the Phillies, Charlie Manuel. Manuel talked about how he knows when a pitcher has reached his limit during a game and he said he just consults with his Dubee. He, of course, was talking about Philadelphia’s pitching coach Rich Dubee; Craig took it another way…

Craig was very preoccupied about what Boomer was going to wear to the game tonight. When Craig attended Game 1 he wore a Yankees hat, (Mets fans for Yankees) and he would like Boomer to wear something to support the Yankees as well. Boomer couldn’t understand the fascination Craig had with his attire, frankly neither could I.  Craig told him, that whether he likes it or not, he was representing him and the show tonight and he didn’t want to be embarrassed. Which reminded Boomer of how Craigie Boy embarrassed him while we were in New Orleans trying to get a table for dinner…

Boomer is a big fan of actor Christopher Walken, for good reason I might add, so when Craig came across this video he was sure it would be right up the Blonde Bomber’s alley. It’s Walken reading the lyrics to the popular song by Lady Gaga called Poker Face.

Once again, the people over at the Fox 5 Good Day NY show came calling for Boomer and Craig this morning. This is starting to become a something of a habit, Craig thinks it is because since they started doing it a little over a week ago, they have seen their ratings jump. It could be because this is the #1 Morning Show in New York. If this goes on any longer, the guys will be lookin' for a check from them.  Anyway, Boomer always gets a little nervous that Craig is going to say something to make everyone uncomfortable, which is a legitimate concern considering Craig’s track record…

Unfortunately for Jerry he wasn’t nearly as excited after his 8:30 update as he was following his 6:30 update. For some reason, the guys took issue with just about every story poor Jerry reported on and what he thought would be another award worthy update, turned out to be a verbal assault the likes he couldn’t have possible been prepared for…

With the entire show being dominated by Yankee talk, Craig was a little apprehensive to break the momentum to talk football with Jerome Bettis, who Al scheduled without checking with him first. Well, Craig was ready to bag the interview all together, but when ‘The Bus’ was on the line he had a little change of heart. Turns out that Bettis is a big Yankee fan and even took a page out of Craig’s book and La-La-La-Locked Up a win for the Yanks tonight. Take that for what it’s worth, but just keep in mind he is a retired football player…

Now, usually Jerry is reluctant to choose anything that involves himself when selecting his highly anticipated Moment of the Day, but today he made an exception. Today’s Moment came from his 6:30 update when we all learned how Jerry feels about pitchers starting on three days’ rest…
