Jets/Dolphins Preview

It's time for this "nonsense" again. The nonsense of course being what Calvin Pace called the Dolphins Wildcat schemes back in Week 5. But no one in the Jets locker room was really laughing after Miami amassed 110 yards with the "Cat" and also a 31-27 victory. So now it's payback time as these two divisional foes will hook up again at the Meadowlands. Of course I had to find out what Pace had to say before this game considering the words he had post the first time these two teams met up:

Feel free to take a listen to an earlier blog where Channing Crowder said that the Dolphins "nonsensed the Jets ass up and down the field" to better reference the Pace reaction.

The overall talk seems to have subsided with this team since the start of the season. On Thursday when I tried to get some "juice" out of Bart Scott he was very short with his answers. I don't know if that was intentional or he is just tired of talking. Who knows. But this is an important game for the Jets as they want to head into the bye week 5-3 and not .500. This coupled with the fact that they want to beat the Dolphins after that Monday night slip up.

Also, forgive me as I seem to have found myself caught up in the World Series and am not totally locked in on this Week 8 match-up. Even Rex made a comment on Thursday about the disappointing performance from the Yankees in game 1 of the World Series. Everyone here in town seems to be a little baseball frenzied. Returning to the topic at hand though ---

Jerricho Cotchery did play against Miami back in Week 5 right on the heels of his hamstring injury and then he sat the past 2 weeks. He "guaranteed" that he would be on the field for this one. This will be the first week that the Jets will have two "serious" weapons at full strength in the receiver role. Braylon Edwards made his debut with the team in the earlier loss in Miami. He had 5 grabs for 64 yards and a touchdown. Bray looking forward to having a healthy J-Co on the other side.

Miami is coming off a disastrous loss where they blew a 3 touchdown lead to the Saints last week dropping them to 2-4 on the season, so there is no doubt they will come out ready to go. I am not fully sure what to expect out of them. Chad Henne threw the football a lot in the first meeting as he completed 20 of 26 passes, but their ground game was also successful. Neither defense played especially well in that game which has me leaning towards this one being a bit more of a defensive battle. Or at least lower scoring. It should be an interesting match-up as far as the running game goes as well. The Jets leading the NFL in rushing averaging nearly 185 yards per contest and the Dolphins are 4th overall in run defense. Shonn Greene filled in mightily for the injured Leon Washington last week and I expect we will see bigger things out of him as the season progresses.

I'm keeping this one short...And also to dispel any concerns of me being a "homer" I am a Dolphin fan having grown up in Miami and I am NOT picking my team to win this game. I think the Jets will put things together and get that payback game they want and head into the bye week on a winning note.
